Inheritance | Perimä, 2011
Tuomo Tammenpää & Sari Kippilä
Inheritance is an installation of ragdoll families. Five original couples, five males and five females with different original genotypes reproduce and make doll-children. Their appearance, skin, hair & eye colour (the fenotype) is based on common probability calculus, ie the younger generations inherit their appearance from their parents according to the dominant and recessive alleles in their genes. The first version of the installation consists of four generations, totaling a population of 49 dolls.
The Inheritance installation is a concept based on textile artisan Sari Kippilä’s original idea and is our first collaborative artwork together. Inheritance was first exhibited in july 2011 as a part of Naantali Contemporary Art Summer NYT2011, in Naantali, Finland.
